Keeping Pennington Green & Gorgeous

Who We Are
The Green Team is the operational heart of the Pennington Conservancy—a dedicated volunteer force working in public open spaces to fulfill our constitutional objective: preserving our natural environment.
Conservation can often feel restrictive or dogmatic to the "man in the street." The Green Team exists to bridge that gap. We operate on a philosophy of participation and ownership, understanding that while this is a nature reserve, people live here too. Our goal is to make conservation practical, visible, and beneficial to the entire community.
Volunteers making a tangible difference.
The Conservation Tightrope
We manage our green spaces with a specific "double-edged" approach, balancing human enjoyment with wildlife safety.
For People: Safe & Open
To encourage residents to enjoy our nature, specific areas must be inviting. We maintain walking trails, clear overgrowth, and remove litter to ensure these zones are safe, defined, and accessible.
For Wildlife: Wild & Secure
Conversely, we deliberately identify and protect "Wildlife Areas." These spaces are kept wild, dense, and perhaps "unfriendly" to humans, providing infinite safety and cover for our shy local fauna.
Ecological Restoration
Our work is never done. We constantly battle invasive alien vegetation and replant indigenous species, ensuring the long-term health of Pennington's biodiversity.

A Community of Friends
I defy you to find a more committed, enthusiastic, and happy group of people. Our volunteers range in age from 12 to 83!
Each member does as much as they can, as often as they can. There is no pressure to "do more." Every hour given is an invaluable contribution.
Beyond the hard work, the Green Team is about connection. Newcomers become firm friends, and existing friendships grow stronger over shared goals and coffee breaks.
